Hardy Milazzo was engaged to design the new fitout for the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) in Adelaide.
The integrated fitout is located within the Tower 8 building on Franklin Street, which was part of Adelaide’s City Central Precinct Redevelopment Plan; the largest urban development in the Adelaide Central Business District to date. The ATO fitout comprises 14 consecutive floors, in addition to the ground and mezzanine levels and accommodates in excess of 2,000 personnel. At the time of design, it was the largest single fit-out undertaken in Adelaide.
The design intent reflects ATO’s key organisational values of community, transparency and support, alongside their desire to foster a collaborative office culture. This focus on creating a connected workplace is articulated throughout each floor via a series of linking ‘laneways’ and ‘streetscapes’. In addition to this, the design acknowledges the site’s unique locality, with an autumnal and coastal finishes palette inspired by the South Australian landscape.
The fitout incorporates best workplace principles providing open plan workspaces to facilitate interaction and team cohesion, varied work points to cater for a diverse range of tasks, collaborative zones, clearly defined breakout spaces and a mix of informal and formal meeting areas.
The design also implements best practice ESD design principles under a commitment to achieve a 5 Star Green Star rating for both the building and fitout, and facilitates the use of the latest information technology and meets the ATO standards in ergonomic design, security and safety.
