HINDMARSH COMMUNITY LIBRARY BUILDING
This library has been very well received by the client, the staff and the general public who use it. The Library is very light and spacious, a pleasure to use and in the words of our client – “it works!”
Natural light floods in through south-facing windows and saw-tooth roof. The layout is very flexible, allowing staff to rearrange furniture as often or as little as required.
The Children’s Area is located in a part of the library with lowered ceilings, creating an appropriately smaller-scale area.
Custom designed furniture has been used to promote a ‘fun’ atmosphere where members and children will tend to stay longer and want to return.
Finishes and colours have been carefully considered to be durable and practical as well as bold and modern. The strong feature colours have been used so that they can be economically changed in the future, while items likely to be re-used indefinitely are in neutral, serviceable colours, for example the dark grey modular carpet and dark grey shelving.
Furniture and joinery is ergonomic, to create a safe and comfortable and flexible working environment for staff and members alike. The whole library is accessible, on one level and caters for disabled patrons and/or staff. Clear signage enables new visitors to easily find various areas, and is flexible to allow staff to re-arrange sections as required.
