The City of Marion’s new City Services combines many of Council’s departments on the same site as their Services Depot.
Hardy Milazzo designed office accommodation for 140 staff across many Council departments, 1,000 sqm of internal and external storage, a 4-bay heavy vehicle workshop incorporating pits and hoists, site circulation and parking for 97 fleet vehicles (including 2 semi-trailers and heavy plant) and staff parking for 160 cars.
The three buildings have been arranged around strict criteria of environmental sustainability, safety and a strong employee-focused culture within Marion Council. The close proximity between office ‘white-collar’ activities and field ‘blue-collar’ activities necessitated a careful treatment of the places where these came into contact. 5-Star Green Star principles were adopted in the design, with heavy emphasis on passive thermal control, day-lighting and natural ventilation. Site stormwater is retained via an array of tanks, and re-used for truck-washing, washroom use and dust control.
