The Mt Barker GP Super Clinic is a new 30 room medical clinic and consulting room facility located next to the existing Mt Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
The facility was procured, in part, through a Federal Government funding stream requiring adherence to provision of services including primary health care and health training and education.
Hardy Milazzo designed the facility to reflect a patient centric service delivery model with centralised waiting areas and consulting services radiating out from the centre, this principle results in a greater working efficiency for practitioners and a faster access to different types of health care for patients.
Biophilic design principles – designing sympathetically to a human’s need for connection with nature and other forms of life – were employed in the use of two landscaped atriums adjacent to the central waiting area. These draw light in to the centre of the large floor plate and provide a tranquil backdrop.
The result is a well-planned working environment for practitioners and a pleasant calming space for patients.
